Introducing Inheritance Tracking

Written by Founder | Feb 9, 2025

I’m excited to announce a powerful new feature in Gene Inspector Pro that allows you to track the inheritance patterns of genetic variants. This update brings more clarity to your genetic analysis, especially when working with family studies.

New Inheritance Marking System

You can now mark variants with their parental origin using these categories:

  • Maternal inheritance (M)

  • Paternal inheritance (F)

  • Potential de novo mutations (N)

  • Probable maternal inheritance (M?)

  • Probable paternal inheritance (F?)

Getting Started

Simply click on the Genotype value and use the "Set inheritance mark" dropdown to add inheritance information. You can modify or remove these marks at any time as your analysis evolves.

After you set an inheritance mark, it will appear on the right or left side of the genotype value:

  • Letter M indicates maternal inheritance

  • Letter F indicates paternal inheritance

Understanding uncertainty is part of genetic analysis. When the inheritance pattern isn't completely clear (such as cases with potential de novo mutations or when only one parent's DNA is available), you can use "Probably from mother" (M?) or "Probably from father" (F?) to indicate your level of confidence.
